He was Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Türkiye Yüksek Ihtisas Hospital, Ankara (2005-2014) and Full Professor in the same institution form 2014 .He has published one hundred scientific articles and four book chapters. He is member of the Executive Committee of the ESCVS.

    Alison is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon whose main interest is in Carotid Surgery and Stroke Prevention.
     
    Principal Investigator in the Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial (ACST-1), one of the world's largest clinical surgery trials, involving thousands of patients from over 30 countries;   The group reported that prophylactic surgery removing tight carotid artery narrowing (carotid endarterectomy) prevents future fatal & disabling strokes for at least 10 yrs; this finding has changed worldwide surgical and stroke practice (Lancet 2004, 2010)
     
    National Audit; Her group instigated and reported (UK Carotid Surgery Audit (2005-8), the largest National Audit of carotid surgery in the UK -  this work highlighted shortcomings in the NHS process of referral and of carrying out prompt carotid artery surgery.  Working with the National Stroke Strategy this has provided a driver for preventing Stroke by improving surgical services (British Medical Journal, 2009) 
     
    Collaborative research; government-funded (NIHR),  working with the University of Oxford Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU),  evaluating  2 stroke prevention technologies in ACST-2, a large International Trial comparing Carotid Endarterectomy with Carotid Artery Stenting. This work enables surgeons, stroke physicians, neurologists, cardiologists and interventional radiologists from many countries to work together and to date, has recruited nearly 2000 patients.

  • Athanasios Giannoukas Bio

    Professor Athanasios Giannoukas studied and trained in Greece. He completed a 5-year Residency in General Surgery at the University Hospital of Ioannina and in 1992 and he passed successfully the board examinations. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1992 and he was appointed in several posts. In 1996 he was awarded the MSc degree in Vascular Medicine and Technology from the Imperial College, University of London, U.K. At the end of 1996 he was appointed as Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Department of Vascular Surgery, University Hospital of Crete, Greece. In 1997 he successfully passed the European Board examinations and was awarded with the FBVS (Fellow Board Vascular Surgery). In 2004 he has taken the PhD degree from the Imperial College, University of London, U.K. In September 2005 he was appointed as Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Thessaly, Larissa, Greece and since 2010 is Full Professor in the same University. He is the founder and Chairman of the Department of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Larissa since March 2006. Currently he is also Chairman of the Surgical Section of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Thessaly. His research work has resulted in 166 publications in peer reviewed journals that have attracted more than 2.200 citations, he is author of several book chapters, and has been invited speaker in numerous international Congresses and Symposia.

    Carlo Setacci studied and trained in Italy. Graduated in Medicine, July 6th, 1971 at the University of Siena and is Full Professor of Vascular Surgery, University of Siena, Italy. He was Chairman of the Department of General and Specialistic Surgery, Policlinico Le Scotte University Hospital in Siena. He is member of numerous vascular national and international societies and was President of the Italian Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (2010-2012) and President of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (2012). He is member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Journal of Endovascular Therapy.
     
    Prof Setacci is author of more than 400 papers, monographies (12) and book chapters, all concerning Vascular Surgery issues, including 138 in peer review journals with impact factor. He has been responsible for several National Scientific Projects sponsored by Minister of University and Health. He is currently involved in a busy clinical, teaching and research program, covering all aspects of vascular disease but with a special attention to carotid, aneurismal and low extremity arterial disease.

    Christos Liapis studied and trained in Greece and USA. He is head of the Vascular Surgery Department at Athens Medical Center and Professor of Vascular surgery at University of Athens. He is involved in several ongoing national and international studies. He has written over 300 articles and a number of books. During his term as Secretary-General of the UEMS Division and Board of Vascular Surgery from 1999-2004, he played a key role in the Board Examinations, European Vascular CME and the establishment of Vascular Surgery as an independent Specialty Section in Europe. He served as President of European Society of Vascular Surgery from 2004-2005, and as Secretary General of ACS Greek Chapter from 2002-2006. He has served as President of the Hellenic Society for Vascular Surgery, and President ACS Greek Chapter. He is currently the Immediate Past President of ISVS (International Society for Vascular Surgeons).

    Before that, Sebastian Debus was Director of the Surgical Clinics, Asklepios Clinic, Hamburg-Hamburg. He has published large number of scientific articles and book chapters. He was past president of German Vascular Society. He is Co-organizer and surgical co-ordinator of numerous national and international meetings and Principal investigator an investigator of several ongoing clinical trials. He has experience with numerous studies evaluating medical devices.

  Emmanuel LANSAC Lecturer Field: CARDIAC SYMPOSIUM: AORTIC VALVE REPAIR

  Topic: Aortic annuloplasty to standardize aortic valve repair

    Dr Emmanuel Lansac is a cardiac surgeon from the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris, in Paris, France. His main topic is aortic valve repair, for which he developed a physiological and standardized approach based on an expansible aortic ring annuloplasty, a new medical device he invented. 
    He leads the prospective multicentric CAVIAAR trial comparing this approach with the Bentall procedure and the international CAVIAAR registry gathering data of patients operated for aortic root aneurysms and/or aortic insufficiency using the ring. He is co-chair of the Aortic Valve Repair Working Group of the Heart Valve Society, setting up the international AVIATOR registry on surgery for dystrophic aortic roots.

  • Eric Verhoeven Bio
    Eric Verhoeven was born in Belgium in 1960. He received his MD degree at the University of Leuven (Belgium) in 1988. After graduating in General Surgery (Leuven, 1994) he moved to The Netherlands for a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the University Medical Center Groningen, and accepted a position as Consultant Vascular Surgeon one year later. He set up an endovascular programme in cooperation with the surrounding peripheral hospitals.
     
    In 2005, he completed his PhD entitled “Endovascular Aneurysm Repair: Results and exploration of new frontiers” at the University of Groningen. In November 2009, he accepted a position as chief of the department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in Nürnberg (Germany). In January 2011, he was awarded a guest-professorship of Surgery at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, in Vascular Surgery at the University of Leuven, Belgium and since 2014, at the new Paracelsus Medical University of Nürnberg. His main interest, both clinical and scientific, continue to be the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms with fenestrated and branched grafts, with now experience in well over 800 cases. He presented results of his work in numerous congresses with more than 700 official presentations, and has published over 200 articles and book chapters.

He was president of the Belgian section for Abdominal Wall Surgery (2008-2010) and he is member of large number of professional societies (Royal Belgian Society for Surgery / Belgian Group of Endoscopic Surgery/ European Association for Endoscopic Surgery/ European Hernia Society/ Belgian Society for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery/ Belgian Society for Pneumology international Society for Medical Innovation and Technology).

  • Gert Jan de Borst Bio
    Gert Jan de Borst was born in Utrecht , the Netherlands on December 14th, 1970. Following medical school at the University of Utrecht he obtained his medical degree at the University of Utrecht in 1996 and graduated in September 1999. Subsequently he became a research fellow at the Department of Vascular Surgery of the University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht where he participated in a substudy of the Dutch Bypass Oral anticoagulant or aspirin study (BOA trial). In the same period he performed animal experiments on endovascular venous valve transplantation. 
     
    In 2001 he started his residency in general surgery at the department of Surgery. Between January 2007 and December 2009 he did a fellowship in Vascular Surgery  (Prof dr FL Moll).
     
    Since april 2009 he works as a vascular surgeon at the department of Vascular Surgery of the UMC Utrecht. His current area of main clinical interest is cerebrovascular pathology with nearly 200 Pubmed notified publications. 
     
    Besides, he is the director of the vascular animal experimental laboratory in Utrecht. He is associate editor of the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. Furthermore, he is regular reviewer for the most relevant journals in his field of expertise (JAMA, Stroke, Journal of Neurology, Journal of Vascular Surgery). Since 2012 he is secretary of the Dutch Association of Vascular Surgeons. Per july 2015 he is the head of Department of Vascular Surgery in the UMC Utrecht.

    José Fernandes e Fernandes, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCS Eng, FESC, graduated in Medicine by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon in 1969, completed General Internships and Residence in General Surgery at the University Hospital Santa Maria (Department of Surgery, Director Prof. João Cid dos Santos) and a Fellowship program at the Cardiovascular Unit St. Mary´s Hospital in London with Mr. H.H.G. Eastcott, from 1975 to 1978, including training and research at the Vascular Laboratory. 
    Presently he is Chairman of the Department of Vascular Surgery at Hospital Santa Maria and was recently appointed Director of the Department of Heart and Vessels at the same hospital, Full-Professor of Surgery and, from 2005 – 2015, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine University of Lisbon. 
    His main clinical and research interests are non-invasive vascular diagnosis and imaging for atherosclerosis, peripheral arterial surgery, management of carotid disease, endovascular techniques for treatment of aorto-iliac, peripheral and renal occlusive disease and endovascular management of aneurysms, a technique he pioneered in Portugal for the management of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms. 
    Prof. Fernandes has more than 100 publications in national and international journals as well as several book chapters.

    Kanat Ozisik graduated in 1990, from Hacettepe University, Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey. Since June 2014, he is Professor in Cardiovascular Surgery at Kafkas University, Faculty of Medicine. He has several memberships at national and international committees and organisations including “Executive Committee of European Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society” and “Executive Committee of the International Academia of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery”. He is also former member of “Executive committee of Turkish Society for Vascular Surgery”.  Also he evaluated many manuscripts in many scientific different journals. He took place in the organization of many national and international congresses, workshops and panels and had many lectures related with his subject. He has taken place in many scientific projects, national and international scientific presentations and articles (34 articles indexed in Pubmed). His professional practice interest areas are, peripheral vascular disease, vascular Surgery and Endovascular Surgery.

    Lazar Davidović studied and trained in Serbia. He obtained his certification of general surgery in 1990 and vascular surgery in 1994 at Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade, Serbia. He presented his Master thesis entitled “Intraarterial perfusion of  PGE1 in the treatment of critical leg ischemia” in 1992 and PhD thesis entitled “Dacron Versus PTFE Bifurcated Grafts in Aorto-bifemoral Position for Treatment of the Occlusive Diseases” in 1995 at Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade. He was assigned Assistant Professor of Surgery in 1994, Associated Professor in 1999, and Full Professor in 2012 at Medical faculty University of Belgrade. He is visiting Professor at Medical faculty, University of Genoa (Italy), Medical faculty, Charles University of Plzen (Czech Republic), Medical Faculty, University of Skoplje (Macedonia) and Medical faculty, University of Larissa (Greece). He has experience with complete open vascular surgery that inculdes repair of more than 200 ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms, and more than 250 thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, repair of 70 injuried arteries during civil war in former Yugoslaviia, and about 100 aortic endovascular procedures.
     
    Lazar Davidović is Chairman of Clinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Clinical Center of Serbida. He has published about 116 scientific articles, 4 monographies and 32 book chapters. He is principal investigator in several national scientific projects and active participant and local chief of several international projects and studies.     Martin Malina studied and trained in Norway and Sweden. He was assigned Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at Lund University in 2000.
     
    Martin Malina was the first Chairman of the Vascular Center Malmö-Lund that integrates vascular surgery, interventional radiology and angiology in southern Sweden. He has published about one hundred scientific articles and fifty book chapters. He is past president of the Swedish Society for Vascular Surgery.

He presented his Doctoral Dissertation entitled “Capillary Microscopy and Hemorrheology in Va­sospastic and Occlusive Vascular Diseases” at the University of Limburg, Maastricht, NL in 1985. This thesis was winner of Schoemaker-prize 1985 (best surgical thesis in the Nether­lands). He is Full Professor and Chief of Vascular Surgery at University Hospital Aachen, Germany (2005-present), Full Professor and Chief of Surgery and Chairman of the department at Maastricht University Medical Center, NL (2000-present), Full Professor of Vascular Surgery at University of Amsterdam, NL (1995-2000) and Executive Director of Cardiovascular Center at Maastricht University Medical Center, NL (2003-present) .
     
    Michael Jacobs is Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has published a large number of scientific articles and book chapters. He is member of numerous international professional societies. He is one of the world leading experts in open repair of thoraco-abdominal aortic diseases.

Since 1988. she is employed at the Mother and Child Health Institute of Serbia. Her interest for paediatric cardiac surgery started shortly after employment. She had spent 16 months at The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London, UK, in 1992/93 as a junior Resident. She qualified in General Paediatric Surgery in 1994, and obtained her Master of Arts degree in 1996. In 1996/97 she spent another year at GOSH as a Senior Registrar. After her return, she became the Head of the Department of Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, which she holds today. In 1999, she entered the Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Paediatric surgery. In 2005. she defended her PhD thesis at the Medical School, University of Belgrade. From 2007. to 2014. she held the position of the Director of the Clinic for Paediatric Surgery. She qualified officially  in Cardiac Surgery in 2013 (new specialisation since 2008). Currently, she is the Vice Director of the Institute for Education and Scientific Research and Professor of Paediatric and Cardiac surgery at the Medical School, University of Belgrade. Dr Stajevic is fluent in English, basick knowledge of French language. She has one son and resides in Belgrade, Serbia.

    Miroslav Marković was born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1966. He studied medicine and trained surgery at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. He was appointed vascular surgeon at the Clinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of the Serbian Clinical Centre in 2003. He presented his Doctoral Dissertation entitled “Intraoperative cell salvage during abdominal aortic surgery” in 2006. In 2013 he was assigned Associate Professor of Surgery at the Belgrade University, Faculty of Medicine.
    Miroslav Marković also trained vascular and endovascular surgery at the Gasthuisberg Hospital in Leuven, Belgium under supervision of Professor Andre Nevelsteen, and transplantation surgery at King’s College in London under supervision of Professor Nigel Heaton. In 2001 he received a certificate from The European Board for Cardiovascular Surgery - FETCS (Fellow European Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)
    Miroslav Marković is an actual Serbian national delegate in the International Union of Angiology. He has published about forty scientific articles in journals cited in JCR list and about twenty book chapters.

    He had finished advanced training in general surgery in 2006 at Clinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Medical faculty, University of Belgrade. In 2007. he finished postgraduate studies: “Transaxilary angiography of the internal thoracic artery in patients with chronic occlusion of abdominal aorta” and in 2011. presented his Doctoral Dissertation entitled “Effect of chronic aortic occlusion on the progression of the distal atherosclerosis” at Medical faculty, University of Belgrade. He was assigned Asistant Professor of Surgery at Medical faculty, University of Belgrade.
    Nikola Ilić spent three months in Maastricht with prof Michael Jacobs in education of thoracoabdominal aortic surgery. He has published more than 60 scientific articles in high impacted journals and in 2014 he published a monograph entitled “Spinal cord ischemia after aortic surgery”.

    Nikolaos Kontopodis studied and trained in Greece. He trained in General Surgery from March 2009 till November 2011 at Venizeleio General Hospital of Heraklion. Currently, trainee in Vascular Surgery since March 2013 and working at Vascular Surgery Unit, Department of CardioThoracic and Vascular Surgery, University Hospital of Heraklion.
    He is PhD student investigating “Factors determining the abdominal aortic aneurysm risk of rupture beyond the universal maximum diameter criterion. Towards an individualized prediction model”.

He was certified as a console surgeon for the da Vinci surgical system in an off-site training program conducted in 2005 at the University of California, Irvine. He is Professor of Vascular Surgery at University of Regensburg.and Head of Vascular and Endovascular surgery, University of Regensburg (1995 to present).
